WAKILI

Terms of service

Please read these before downloading or using Wakili.

1. The software is free and open-source

Wakili is licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License, version 3.0 (AGPL-3.0). Your rights to use, study, modify and share it are granted by that licence, and the full licence text accompanies the source. Nothing on this page limits the rights the AGPL gives you.

2. No warranty

Wakili is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the authors and contributors are not liable for any claim, damages or other liability arising from the software or its use.

3. It is a tool, not a lawyer

Wakili assists with legal work; it does not practise law. It does not know the law and can be confidently wrong. It does not file documents, serve parties, or represent anyone before a court. A qualified, licensed advocate is responsible for reviewing, signing and filing every document. Every draft is marked “SIGN BEFORE FILING” for this reason. You are responsible for verifying deadlines against the official cause list and for the accuracy of anything you submit.

4. Security is shared, and limited

Wakili protects data at rest and data you export, but it cannot protect a computer that someone else already controls, and it cannot hide that it was used. You are responsible for the security of your device, for keeping your passphrase safe, and for who has physical access to any USB bundle you create. There is no passphrase recovery: if you lose it, the data is unrecoverable.

5. Verify what you download

Builds are not code-signed. You are responsible for verifying the fingerprint of any download against the published SHA256SUMS before running it, as described in the documentation. Do not run a build whose fingerprint does not match.

6. Lawful use

You agree to use Wakili in compliance with the laws that apply to you. The project is intended to support human-rights defenders and lawful legal work; you are responsible for your own use of it.

7. This website

This website is provided to describe and distribute Wakili, without warranty as to availability or accuracy. Downloads are provided under the same no-warranty terms as the software. External links are provided for convenience and are not endorsements.

8. Trademarks and attribution

“Wakili” and the scales mark identify this project. The AGPL permits forks; if you distribute a modified version, please make clear that it is not the official build and comply with the licence's source-availability requirements.

9. Changes

These terms may be updated; changes are posted here and noted in the changelog. Continued use after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

If any provision is unenforceable, the remainder continues in effect. Where these terms and the AGPL-3.0 conflict as to your rights in the software, the AGPL-3.0 governs.
